The Cultural Heritage Management & Sustainable Development Postgraduate Programme, MA programme, Budapest

The Institute for Social and European Studies (ISES) Foundation and the Corvinus University Budapest invite students to apply for The Cultural Heritage Management & Sustainable Development Postgraduate Programme (CHMSD), which offers a two-year  MA level degree within the Economics Faculty of the Corvinus University Budapest. The program is complemented by the UNESCO Chair in Cultural Heritage Management and Sustainability, established in 2011. The program is available as a blended training program combining online and offline courses.

Cultural Heritage Management & Sustainable Development as a novel and innovative training program  offers participants a unique opportunity to  meet the growing demand in Europe and around the world for trained professionals who possess and combine the skills and knowledge  to manage, preserve and protect cultural heritage in order to contribute to the sustainability of local and regional societies now and for future generations.

The program has a strong practical component involving students in regional cultural heritage projects. The fields of study include methodologies for cultural heritage assessment and management, protection and revitalization of historical towns and regions,  the role of creative cities in revitalizing regional economies by managing cultural heritage in innovative ways,  tools and practices serving sustainable conservation, modern architecture as heritage, management of change in historic environments, promotion of cultural heritage, economic valuation of cultural heritage, management of intangible cultural heritage, cultural heritage and tradition. The program will include a new specialization on best practices of creative cities in East-Central and South-East Europe during the 2013/2014 academic year.

Program professors include outstanding heritage professionals, architects, archaeologists, sociologists, art historians, managers, urban development experts,  economists and cultural diplomats from Europe and around the world. Lectures are held in small groups that provide more interactive, personal and friendly contact between professors and students.

The program is sponsored by the International Visegrad Fund and is launched as International Visegrad Studies.

The 120 ECTS credited program covers two years of full-time studies (2 semesters for course work on the Kőszeg campus, 3rd semester for e-learning, 4th semester for practical training, thesis writing and defense).

 The ISES Foundation offers a wide range of scholarships for outstanding students from all over the world.

The next deadline for applications is September 15, 2013 (September 1, 2013 for those students who need a visa to Hungary). The fall semester begins September 30, 2013.

The Institute for Social and European Studies (ISES) Foundation, a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, invites students to apply for the International Economic Relations MA programme, with a special focus on Global and European Studies.

ISES provides students from around the world with the opportunity to obtain theoretical and practical knowledge in the fields of international relations and economics, regional and global studies, political science, sociology, European culture and history.

The structure of the MA International Economic Relations programme is unique in its flexible timetable throughout the term. Each week a well-known professor, EU official, NGO leader, or development and regional expert spends the week lecturing on their topic of expertise. Lecturers come from all over the world and all courses are taught in English.

Students can begin in the Fall or Spring semesters and must spend a total of two semesters on campus for course work. A third semester is spentdoing research and thesis writing. For each semester on campus students earn 60 ECT Credits for a total of 120 ECT Credits. Upon successful completion and defense of the MA thesis, students are awarded an additional 60 ECTS Credits. The program averages 20-30 students per year, which allows for personal, individualized and meaningful interaction.

The MA International Economic Relations programme is open to BA degree holders from any area of study, but may be of special interest to social science graduates, especially those who wish to specialize in the theory and practice of European Studies, those with work experience in the developing world, wishing to expand their knowledge of the role of the EU in the international arena, government officials and non-governmental practitioners interested in working in or with the EU on regional and cultural development cooperation, or students interested in making a significant contribution as analysts, policy-makers, researchers or practitioners.

Students receive a unique degree from a Jean Monnet European Centre of Excellence, accredited by the Corvinus University of Budapest, one of the highest ranked universities in Central Europe.

ISES graduates work in research and policy development, advising and planning of local and international development cooperation, project management, and PR related to cultural and economic development; they are employed by the EU at home or abroad, in ministries and state administration, and in multinational companies.
